A man, who was accused in rape and murder cases, has been killed in Faridpur in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported around 2am on Monday (Dec 16) from Jora Bridge area in the district’s municipality, said police.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Yeasin Molla.
According to police, Molla was accused in three cases including one filed for rape of a handicapped girl.
“Police arrested Molla after identifying him from CCTV footages at Rajendra College Mela field. During a drive accompanied by Molla, his accomplice opened fire on police, in retaliation police had to fire back triggering the shootout,” said Kotwali police Sub-Inspector Belal Hossain.
“Molla was caught in the line of cross-firing and was rushed to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead,” said Hossain.
“Three police members were also injured in the incident,” added the OC.
