BNP’s district unit office was set on fire and several shops ransacked during the clashes on Sunday (Dec 8).
As many as 30 people, including police have been injured in a series of clashes between Awami League and BNP activists and leaders over an attack on a victory day rally of Sirajganj Government College. The situation came under control around 1 pm after police fired tear gas and rubber bullets. The injured were given treatment at the local hospital.
AL’s municipality unir president, Helal Uddin, said: “The victory rally was brought out after inaugurating the foundation stone of Bangabandhu mural and the MP for Sirajganj-2 was present. When the rally reached Kalibaro road, BNP activists swooped on the rally.”

Meanwhile, BNP standing committee member Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku said citing witnesses that pro government party workers from the rally attacked BNP workers and leaders.
Additional Superintendent of police Forkan Sikder said: “When police went to control the situation, they came under attack from BNP workers and activists but now the situation is under control.”
