The Islamic State group, also known as ISIS, claimed to have bombed near a police station in Khulna on Thursday (Dec 5).

Militant activity watchdog SITE Intelligence Group reports that the Middle East-based terror outfit has claimed the responsibility for bomb attack near Arongghata Police Station in Khulna on Friday (Dec 6).

This is the second attack IS claimed in the northwestern industrial city in less than four months.

The attack took place on Thursday night when a crude bomb exploded at the adjacent school playground of the police station.

Authorities have filed a case against unnamed people over the incident, Khulna metro police’s Media wing chief Assistant Commissioner Moniruzzaman Mithu told Bangla Tribune.

Senior police officials visited the crime scene to take stock of the situation and a counter-terrorism unit from Dhaka has already collected evidence from the blast site.

On Sept 30, a blast went off at Awami League’s Shiromani office in Khulna. Later IS claimed the responsibility of the attack.

Hours after the explosions, SITE Intelligence Group, an American company that tracks the online activity of white supremacist and militant organisations, said the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks.
