Testing arsenic in tube wells to resume after 16 years

The government is set to implement a project to test for arsenic in tube wells after 16 years.
Department of Public Health Engineering will implement the project in 54 districts from January next year.
According to Bogura Department of Public Health Engineering identifying arsenic in tube wells ended in 2003.
During that time, arsenic was found that the water in 69,208 tube wells were found to be contaminated while 464 people were affected.
Public health engineering department Engineer Md Anoaruzzaman said that drawing too much water from the underground and using arsenic during processing of animal hides on the river banks cause arsenic levels to rise.
He added that they have identified eight upazilas in Bogura where the water is contaminated.
