Road crashes kill seven across country

FILE PHOTOSeven people were killed in separate road accidents in Satkhira, Bagerhat, Joypurhat, Cumilla, and Tangail on Tuesday (Dec 3).
In Bagerhat, a minor was killed when he was run over by a bus on the Signboard-Morelganj local highway in Kismat Pinguria of Kachua Upazila.
The deceased was identified as Byjid Sheikh, 5, son of Badshah Sheikh of the area.
Kachua police SI Md Habibur Rahman said a passenger bus hit Byzid when he tried to cross the road by himself, leaving him dead on the spot.
In Satkhira, an elderly man was killed when a trolley ran over him on his way home, near Sakhipur Bazar Mor of Debhata Upazila.
The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 60, from Ghalghalia Rahimpur village of Debhata Upazila, who was suffering from memory loss.
Debhata police OC Biplob Kumar Saha confirmed the matter, saying that police managed to seize the trolley but the driver escaped.
In Joypurhat, a mother and her daughter were killed on the spot when a truck ran over them near Jalatul Chakipara of Sadar Upazila.
The deceased were identified as Rifa Akter, 27, wife of Nur Alam, and her daughter Anika Akter, 6, from Sundarpur village of Sadar Upazila.
Anika's uncle Arif Hossain accused as responsible for their deaths, truck driver Abdul Karim and his assistant Arfan Ali, from Boroitoli Nayapara village of the upazila, who were in the truck at the time of the accident.
Confirming the news, Joypurhat Sadar police OC Shahriar Khan said that the bodies of mother and daughter were sent to Joypurhat District Adhunik Hospital for autopsy.
In Comilla, two men were killed in two separate road accidents. A motorcycle rider was killed when a truck ran over him in front of the Moynamoti highway police station.
The deceased was identified as Rakib, 32, from Jhalakathi Sadar Upazila.
Moynamoti highway police station SI Jashim confirmed the matter.
An elderly man was killed on the spot when a bus ran over him near Batisa Golmanikko area of Chauddagram Upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam, 87, from Bashantapur village of the upazila.
Locals said that Abul Kalam was crossing the road when this accident happened.
In Tangail, an elderly woman was killed on the spot when a motorcycle hit him in Radha Gobinda Temple area of Delduar Upazila.
The deceased was identified as Birza Sundori, 70, from Hingra Nagar area of the upazila.
Delduar police station OC A K Saidul Haque Bhuiyan confirmed the matter, saying a motorcycle hit Birza when she was paying fare to an auto rickshaw driver standing beside the road.
