Two suspected criminals have been killed in Satkhira in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported from Bokchora Mor area near the Bypass road in the district town in the early hours on Saturday (Nov 30), said police.
The deceased have been identified as Dip Azad and Saiful Islam, who police said listed criminals.
Sources said, they were bodyguards of Satkhira Chhatra League General Secretary Syed Sadikur Rahman Sadek.
Satkhira Superintendent of Police (SP) Mostafizur Rahman said: "Dip and Saiful were arrested by members of Satkhira Detective Branch (DB) of police and Kaliganj police station on Saturday. Later, they were taken to Bokchora Mor area for seizing firearms."
"As police reached the spot, Dip and Saiful's associates opened fire, triggering a shootout,” said SP Rahman.
"The duo caught in the line of fire and succumbed to their injuries on their way to hospital, while others managed to flee the scene," he said.
Two foreign made pistols and one round of ammunition were seized from the spot.
