A Rohingya man has been killed in a land mine explosion at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Naikhyongchari.
The incident was reported from the upazila’s Ghumdum area late on Thursday (Nov 29).
The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Hamid Hossain, a resident of Ukhiya Kutupalong camp-1.
“A man from my camp was killed in the landmine blast. The body has been brought to the camp,” said Ukhiya Kutupalong west-1 Rojhingya leader Mohammad Rafique.
According to the Rohingyas, locals recovered Hamid’s body from the near pillar 39 of the border when they heard the blast.
They added that two others who were injured were taken to Ukhiya Kutupalong MFS Hospital.
A top Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) official wishing to remain anonymous said that Hamid was killed in a landmine blast and one of the injured has been taken to Chattogram in critical condition.
“The incident took place inside Myanmar border,” he said before adding that they might be drug traders or were trying to cross the border.
