Freedom fighter Abul Khair BhuiyanFreedom fighter, Abul Khair Bhuiyan of Panchagarh has applied to the district administration refusing state honour after death and asked to be buried in a social programme.
He has taken this decision as a protest against fake freedom fighters who are getting benefits from the state. The copy of the application was sent to the prime minister, minister of home, liberation war affairs and the UNO.
The application was sent by post to the district administration on Nov 16. Abul Khair was a company commander in sector 6 during the war and led the battle to free Debiganj on Dec 9.
In his application, he has said that of the 164 freedom fighters in Debiganj, 43 are frauds and though he made several applications about them to ACC, PM’s office, ministry of liberation war affairs, no concrete action was taken.
Abul Khair says: “I cannot accept any state honour when false freedom fighters are getting more attention and the real ones are deprived of recognition.”
District administrator, Sabina Yasmin, observed: “We got an application from freedom fighter Abul Khair rejecting state honour after death and are investigating the matter.”
