Workers of the nine state-owned jute mills in Khulna and Jashore staged a demonstration to press home their 11-point demand, including payment of due salary and implementation of the wage commission.
The demonstration took place on Monday (Nov 25) morning, two days after they held a gathering and announced their 11-point demand..
On Saturday (Nov 23), they also announced month-long protest schedule including hunger procession on November 25, hunger strike at different mill gates on November 27, protest rally on December 2, and strike on December 5.
Demanding immediate payment of arrears, Murad Hossain, convener of Jashore-Khulna Jute Mill Workers League said, “Wages of 11 weeks are outstanding. Jute workers are in a dire state.”
“There are 13,170 permanent workers and 17,413 part-time workers in nine state-run jute mills in Jashore and Khulna,” he added.
