Three killed in wild elephant attacks in Chattogram

Three people have been killed in three different attacks by a herd of elephants in Chattogram’s Boalkhali upazila.
The incidents were reported from the upazila’s Kodurkhil, Syednagar and Joishthapur areas on Sunday (Nov 24), Boalkhali police Inspector Mohammad Helal Uddin Faruki.
The deceased have been identified as Abu Taher, 65, Zaker Hossain, 65 and Abdul Mabud, 60.
“The elephant herd entered the locality on Sunday morning. They attacked while returning to the mountains,” said Faruki.
According to locals and witnesses, around five elephants attacked Taher when he was working in the fields, killing him on spot.
The herd then attacked Zakir Hossain who was taken to the upazila health complex first and then to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Abdul Mabud was attacked and killed on spot while the herd was returning to the mountain.
