Three persons, branded drug dealers were killed in a ‘shootout’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at the port city’s Khulshi area early Thursday, RAB sources said.
Two of the victims were identified as Jakir Hossain, 31, and Dalim Hossain, 29, while the identity of the other one could not be known immediately.
Being tipped off that drugs were being carried in a private car, a RAB team started searching operation installing checkpoint in the Railway Gate Canteen area around 3:30 am, said RAB Senior Assistant Director Mimtanur Rahman.
When the elite force asked the private car to stop, the ‘drug traders’ opened fire on them forcing the elite force members to fire back in self-defence.
At one point, RAB members found the bodies along with 120 kgs cannabis and two firearms from the scene, Mimtanur added.
