Though superintendant of police (SP) Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid was withdrawn from Narayanganj, he did not hand over the duty to anyone else; he is using the car allotted for the police super and was seen at a programme of the fire service and civil defence held on Nov 6 at Purbachal, Narayanganj.

Harun welcomed Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan along with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jasim Uddin. Reportedly, the minister talked to the SP sporting a somber expression.

No official present was willing to say what the minister had said to SP Harun but he was not seen when the programme began.

On Nov 3, at the order of the president, Harun-ur-Rashid was withdrawn from the post of Narayanganj SP and transferred to the police headquarters.

SP Harun is accused to picking up Faria, the daughter in law of Partex Group chairman, MA Hashem, and his grandson, Anab.

Reportedly, to incriminate Showkat Aziz, the son of M A Hashem, the SP tried to frame him in a false drugs and weapons case.

At a press conference, the SP said that late at night on Nov 1 November, a search of the car of Russell near Signboard filling station, yielded huge amount of drugs. He claimed that Faria and her son were in the car at that time.

However, CCTV footage of Showkat Aziz showed that the wife and son were actually picked up from their home.

Showkat Aziz Russell got bail in the two cases lodged against him but the driver of the car is in remand. After coming out on bail, Russell, said: “SP Harun demanded Tk 40 million and when the money was not paid, the car was stolen from in front of a club and then the wife and child were picked up; later, to incriminate the businessman, huge amount of drugs were planted in the car and cases were lodged against me.”
