Freedom fighter Khorshed Alam Khosru is paralysed and confined to bed for 25 years and his freedom fighter stipend is being collected by his younger brother, Nabab Ali. Reportedly, Nabab uses his brother’s name but his own photo to carry out this deception.
The incident took place at Fulki village in Bashail upazila of Tangail. When Khorshed became paralysed, he asked his younger brother to get information about the stipend but though the benefit began from 2000, Nabab kept it a secret.
Three years ago, Khorshed came to know of the benefit card and then informed the matter to the UNO and social welfare officer.
Later, Khorshed lodged a case at the Tangail senior judicial magistrate’s court. Local UP chairman, Jahidul Islam, had several arbitration meetings but the matter was not resolved.
Khorshed’s wife, Mariam Begum, added: “My husband has been paralysed for a long period and though asked Nabab about benefits for freedom fighters, the younger brother did not tell him anything.”
Khorshed’s daughter Bilqis Begum, said: “We lodged a case against my uncle for defrauding my father and complained to several quarters but since my uncle is influential, we are not getting any solution.”
When contacted, Nabab’s behaviour was hasty and he could not show any valid papers.
Upazila official Shamsun Nahar Shopna, said: “The benefit in the name of Khorshed Alam is being collected regularly.”
At the order of the court, PBI investigated the case and sub inspector of PBI said in his report that Khorshed Alam and Nabab Ali are not the same persons.
