Professor of Anthropology of Jahangirnagar University, Sayeed Ferdous, has alleged that when students demanding the removal of Jahangirnagar University VC, Farzana Islam, brought out a procession, teachers loyal to the VC goaded the Chhatra League members to attack the protesters.

Professor Sayeed is one of the spokespersons for the platform ‘Jahangirnagar against corruption’ and on Tuesday (Nov 5), was wounded in a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) attack.

When BCL activists attacked protesting students, teachers on the side of the VC clapped and encouraged them; it’s only possible in this country where teachers officials encourage students to assault fellow teachers, lamented Sayeed.

While describing the event, Sayeed, said: “On Tuesday morning, we were in front of the VC’s home and, at that time, a pro VC group wanted to uproot us; around noon, BCL League workers came and accusing general students of being Jamaat activists began an assault and forcing others out. At that time, Pro-VC teachers egged them on.

In a tone of regret Professor Sayeed observed: “In this country, no institution is working. Self-esteem, values are gone and everything is considered from the perspective of party allegiance.”

Reportedly, when the students came under attack the police guarding the VC’s home was seen to be inactive.
