A court in Barishal sentenced a woman to one month in prison for torturing and starving her in-laws.

Mobile court Executive Magistrate Bipul Chandra Das passed the order against Monika Boiragi late on Tuesday (Oct 29) night at Ashkor village in Agailjhara Upazila’s Bagdha Union.

Monika’s father-in-law Bhabashindhu Boiragi said, since six month she (Monika) tried to get him and his wife out from home. She has also starved them, often slapped abusive words to them and tortures them.

“Our son did not take any measures against her,” said Bhabshindhu.

“Later, we gave a written complaint to the UNO when Monika tried to get us out from home,” he added.

UNO Das said, Monika was sentenced to one month in prison after she confessed to her deeds. She will be sent to Barishal Central Jail on Wednesday (Oct 30).
