Three suspected robbers have been killed in Chattogram’s Sitakunda Upazila in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as shootout.
The incident was reported from Choto Kumira area of the upazila early on Tuesday (Oct 29), said Sqn Ldr Shafayat Jamil Fahim, deputy captain of RAB-7.
The identity of the deceased could not be confirmed yet but RAB believe that the men were members of an inter-district robbery gang.
“RAB conducted a raid at Chhoto Kumira in the early hours of Tuesday after being tipped off about a group of men occupying the area for highway robbery,” Sqn Ldr Shafayat told Bangla Tribune.
“As soon as the RAB team reached the area, a group of robbers opened fire on them, forcing the elite force to retaliate. Later, the robbers fled the area and three bullet-ridden bodies were found on the spot,” he said.
“A foreign made pistol, 12 rounds of ammunition and 2 sharp weapons were seized from the scene,” he added.
“The bodies have been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CHCH) for autopsy,” said the senior elite force officer.
