Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a Rohingya youth with 800,000 yaba tablets in Cox's Bazar.
Twenty six-year-old Jamal Uddin was arrested from Inani beach area of Ukhiya upazila in the district on early Monday (Oct 28), while he was smuggling the contraband inside Bangladesh through waterway.
Jamal is a resident of Unchiprang Rohingya refugee camp in Teknaf.RAB-15 Cox's Bazar Crime Prevention Special Company (CPSC) Commander Mehedi Hasan said, "Acting on a tip-off that a consignment of yaba will be smuggled inside the country through waterway, we conducted a raid in several places along the Bay of Bengal.”
"Later, we succeeded in arresting Jamal with smuggled goods from Inani, However, there were other Rohingya men involved with the smuggling, who managed to flee."
The RAB official further said Jamal has been taken to the RAB camp for questioning. Preparations were underway to take legal action in this regard, he added.
