Hathazari madrasa students block highway over Bhola clashes

Madrasa students protesting Bhola incident in Ctg on Oct 20, 2019.The students of Hathazari madrasa blocked the Chattogram- Rangamati highway after four people were killed and over 50 others injured in a clash between police and locals in Bhola over a ‘Facebook post’ hurting the religious sentiment.

Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Muinul Islam popularly known as the Hathazari Madrasa students started demonstrations just after 5 pm.

Witnesses say, the students threw brickbats at the Hathazari police station and blocked the highway for two hours.

Police fired a few blank rounds to subdue the protestors, according to them.

Hathazari police’s Inspector Md Towhidul Islam told news agency UNB, “Madrasa students threw brickbats at the police station but nobody was injured.”

Chattogram’s Superintendent of Police Nure Alam Mina said that the situation was under control.

"Students lifted the blockade around 7:30 pm,” he said.
