Onion prices are showing a downward trend with each kilogram going down by Tk 8-10 at Dinajpur’s Hili in the last two days.
Indian onion is being sold for Tk 72-75 per kilograms which was Tk 80-85 two days ago. Meanwhile, local onion is going for Tk 90, instead of Tk 100.
Importing onion is halted for 20 days as the Indian government has banned exporting onion, said onion importers.
They said that as the stock of exported onion against open Letters of Credit (LC) reduced, the price went up.
Following India’s onion export ban, per kilograms of onion sold for Tk 75-80 in the wholesale market and Tk 80-85 in the retail market.
The prices are gradually decreasing due to the import of the kitchen staple from Myanmar and Turkey.
