Four alleged pirates have been killed in Sundarbans in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as shootout.
The incident was reported early on Tuesday (Oct 15) from Koyra area, said RAB-6 chief Lt Col Syed Mohammad Nurus Salehin Yousuf.
Two of the deceased have been identified as gang leader Aminur and his second-in-command Rafiq.
“A shootout took place between RAB members and a group of pirates at Koyra area of Sundarbans early Tuesday. Aminur, Rafiq and their two associates were caught in line of crossfiring,” said Lt Col Yousuf.
“Six RAB members were also injured in the incident,” he said before adding, “A huge cache of fireamrs and ammunition were seized from the scene.”
