‘Robber’ killed in Habiganj 'shootout'

The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Kudrat Ali, of Doriyapur village in Nizampur union of Sadar upazila.An alleged robber has been killed in Habiganj’s Shaistaganj Upazila in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported in the early hours of Tuesday (Oct 15) from the upazila’s Purashudha area, said police.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Kudrat Ali, of Doriyapur village in Nizampur union of Sadar upazila.
"We received a tip-off that some 10 to 12 people were preparing to commit robbery at Purashudha area on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway. A team from the Detective Branch (DB) of Police raided the area when the robbers opened fire on law enforcers, in retalliate police had to fire back which triggered a shootout,” said Shaistaganj police OC Mozammel Haque.
“Kudrat Ali was caught in line of crossfiring and died on the spot,” said OC Haque.
“Four police members, including a sub-inspector, were injured in the incident. They have been treated at Habiganj Sadar Hospital,” he said.
“Kudrat Ali was a listed criminal and had 13 criminal cases against him at different police stations in Habiganj district,” he added.
“Some locally made arms including a pipe gun were seized from the scene,” said the OC.
