Claiming that border killing incidents have significantly dropped, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen says India cannot be blatantly blamed for it rather called the people to act “responsibly”.
"We have to be more responsible to reduce the border killings. Most of the border killing victims were involved in smuggling," he said on Saturday (Oct 12).
His remarks came while speaking with the media at the Osmani International Airport in Sylhet.
"More than one hundred people were killed every year between 2001 and 2003 with a total of 166 deaths reported alone in 2003.
"But, only three to four people were killed last year," he added.
The foreign minister said, Bangladesh will be benefited by the gas export deal, and it is indeed good news for the country.
About the water-sharing deal with India on Feni river, He said the neighboring country has been allowed to withdraw water from the river for a town with only six thousand people.
Before inking the deal, India used to withdraw water from the river using pumps, but now it has been allowed to withdraw a limited scale of water under its own monitoring system, he said.
