Police gun barrelTwo suspected drug peddlers, including a Rohingya man, have been killed in Cox’s Bazar in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported early on Saturday (Oct 12) in the Sadar Union's Malirmar Chara hilly area, said police.
The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Ahammad Hossain, a native of Teknaf Sadar Union's Hatiarghona, and 46-year-old Abdur Rahman, a resident of Hnila Union's Nayapara Rohingya Camp.

Three policemen were also injured in the shootout, said Teknaf police OC Pradeep Kumar Das.

“Police detained Hossain and Rahman from the Hatiarghona area early on Saturday. Based on their information, police conducted a drive at Malirmar Chara hilly area to seize yaba tablets and arms. When the police arrived on the scene, their associates opened fire on the law enforcers leading to a retaliation which triggered a shootout,” said OC Pradeep Kumar Das.

“Later, police found Hossain and Rahman lying on the ground with bullet-wounds. They were taken to Teknaf Health Complex where the duty doctor referred them to take to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for better treatment,” said OC Das.

“The bodies have been kept at the Cox’s Bazar hospital for autopsy,” added the OC.

Two firearms, 4 rounds of ammunition and 5,000 yaba tablets were seized from the scene.

Dr Pronoy Ruddra of Teknaf Health Complex said, “Police brought two bullet wound persons to the hospital. The injured policemen were released from the hospital after providing first aid."
