Rajshahi college girl sets herself on fire in front of police station

RajshahiA college student set herself on fire in front of the Teacher’s Training College which is near the Shah Makhdum Police Station in Rajshahi town over a family dispute.
The incident occurred around 2.30pm on Saturday (Sept 28), witnesses say.
Liza Rahman, daughter of Abdul Latif, of Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj upazila, and also wife of Shakhawat Hossain, is a second year student at Rajshahi City College.
Liza was rescued and sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for treatment. Doctors said she sustained 45% burns.
Later, she was referred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment.
Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Golam Ruhul Kuddus, also the spokesperson of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said following a quarrel with her husband in the morning, Liza went to Shah Makhdum police station to file a domestic violence case.
Police sent her to lodge the complaint with the Victim Support Centre, situated near the police station, but she left the place and tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire around 2:30pm.
Later, locals rescued her and rushed her to the hospital, he said.
Shah Makhdum police OC Masud Rana said: “The student's case was in the process of being recorded. Due to a delay, she left the police station."
