Forty five-year-old Sadhana Rani died around 6.30am on Sunday (Sept 29) while being treated at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH), said Dr Bakir Hossain, director of SBMCH.
She was admitted to the hosptial around 10pm on Saturday (Sept 28) being affected by dengue, said Dr Hossain.
The death toll of dengue patients at SBMCH, including Rani, increased to 11 since July 16, 2019, the hospital director added.
Hospitals across Bangladesh have admitted 360 patients diagnosed with dengue in the 24 hours until 8am Saturday (Sept 28).
Of them, 102 new patients were admitted in Dhaka and 258 in districts outside Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS).
Its Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room said in a statement that the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 1,709.
A total of 75 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh between Jan 1 and Sept 28, it said. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 166, so far.
As many as 629 patients were currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,080 people were undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, says the DGHS.
Until Sept 28 this year, a total of 87,263 people have been affected by dengue, a mosquito-borne virus which spreads among humans through Aedes mosquito.
Among those admitted, a total of 85,323 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
