‘Drug peddler’ killed in Mymensingh ‘shootout’

Police gun barrelAn alleged drug peddler has been killed in Mymensingh in what the police describe as a shootout.
The victim has been identified as Khan Noman, 45.
The incident was reported early on Monday from the district’s sadar Upazila, said Kotwali Police OC Mahmudul Islam.
He said, “Acting on a tip-off, Police conducted a raid at sadar upazila’s Raghurampur at around 2am. Sensing the presence of the lawmen, the perpetrators open fired police to fire back in self-defence which triggered the shootout. Later, Police recovered Khan Noman’s bullet-ridden body from the spot and sent it to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Rest of the ‘drug peddlers were managed to escape from the spot.”
“Drugs were seized from the spot and two police official were injured in the incident,” OC Islam added.
Khan Noman is a listed drug peddler in Mymensingh police stations, police said.
