The incident occurred at the district’s Bhaluka Upazila at the early hours on Saturday (Sep 14), said the Detective Branch.
The victim, identified as Rubel from Jamirdia village in the Upazila, was wanted in seven cases, including five narcotics cases, according to Shah Kamal Akand, the Detective Branch officer-in-charge in Mymensingh.
“Tipped off that a group of drug dealers gathered in the area around 2:30am, a team of police raided the area. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, drug dealer opened fire, forcing them to retaliate,” he said.
Bullet-hit Rubel was found at the scene after the shootings ended, said Akand before adding he was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Police recovered 200 Yaba tablets and 100 gram heroin from the spot, said the Detective Branch officer.
