Police have pressed charges against three suspected operatives of banned militant group Neo-JMBs over the deaths of four people during the 2017 anti-terror raid in Sylhet.
On Saturday (Sept 7), the Police Bureau of Investigation filed the chargesheet with a metropolitan magistrate’s court in the northeastern city.
“Charges have been pressed against Jahirul Hoque Joshim, his wife Arzina and their neighbour Md Hasan. They were arrested on Mar 15, 2017 over a terror attack at Chattogram’s SitaKunda,” PBI Inspector Abul Hossain, the investigating officer, said.
On Mar 24, 2017, law enforcement agencies uncovered a militant hideout located inside a five-storey building ‘Atia Mahal’ at Shibbari in South Surma.
Army commandos subsequently stormed and neutralised the ‘militant den’ in a four-day raid called ‘Operation Twilight’ in which four suspected militants were killed.
A case was started over the incident by the local police with the PBI taking over the investigation later.
