RohingyaBorder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has halted an attempt by a fresh batch of Rohingyas from entering Bangladesh from Myanmar.

A boat carrying six Rohingyas tried to cross through River Naaf at the Hila Nayapara border early on Saturday (Sept 7), confirmed Teknaf-2 BGB Battalion deputy chief Shariful Islam Jomaddar.

According to BGB sources, a special patrol team detained the six Rohingyas amongst whom three were women and three were children.

They were sent back to Myanmar through the same route, the sources said.

“No new Rohingyas will be allowed to enter. BGB is on the alert to ward off any trespassing,” said Jomaddar.

He added that so far 28 Rohingyas have been stopped from entering Bangladesh from Myanmar’s Rakhine.

Meanwhile, Teknaf Leda camp Chairman Mohammad Alam said that the Rohingyas are trying to cross the border due to the hard life they are living in Myanmar.

Tekanaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Rabiul Hasan said that these attempts to trespass through the border happen every now and then and hence the law enforcers are on the alert.

According to Amnesty International, more than 750,000 Rohingya refugees, mostly women and children, have fled Myanmar and crossed to Bangladesh after Myanmar forces launched a crackdown on the minority Muslim community in August 2017, extending the figure of the persecuted people here more than 1.1 million.
