Barapukuria coal mine workers return to work

Around 950 workers, who are employed at the coal mine by the Chinese operator CMC-XMC on a contract basis, went on strike late on Tuesday (Aug 20) night.
The workers returned to work after a meeting with mine authorities around 12pm on Wednesday (Aug 21), said Barapukuria Coal Mine Deputy Director-General Khan Md Jafor Sadik.
President of Barapukuria Coal Mine Worker and Employee Union, Robiul Islam said that they decided to resume the work after an effective meeting with the authorities over their demands.
According to sources, the Chinese operator had previously served a notice directing workers to return to the work by Aug 13 after Eid-ul-Azha holidays or lose the job.
As a number of staffers were fired, the workers then went on the strike on Aug 14.
