Magura AL leader death: Case opened against DB policemen

MaguraA murder case has been lodged at the court against Detective Branch (DB) police Sub-Inspector Waliar Rahman and 14 others over the death of Magura Awami League (AL) leader Amirul Islam.
The case was lodged by Amirul’s elder brother, Baharul Islam, on Sunday (Aug 18).
The complaint states that a DB police local team led by SI Waliar colluded with local BNP-Jamaat leaders to kill Amirul.
As per the complaint, On Aug 6 afternoon, the sub inspector and others went to the residence of BNP leader, Baharul Biswas, and planned the killing. Late afternoon the same day, Amirul was at a tea stall in the local market when the DB members chased him.
At one point, Amirul jumped into the Kumar River. The sub inspector went to him on a boat and Amirul asked for help. But the sub inspector hit him with the oar and Amirul drowned.
Reportedly, the DB police prevented local people from helping Amirul by threatening to open fire.
On Aug 7, the body of Amirul was discovered by divers of the Khulna Fire Service. Lawyer of the defendant, Shafiqul Islam has said that magistrate has asked OC of Sreepur police station to find if any other case has been or will be lodged on the matter within Sept 18 next.
