A man has been killed in Gaibandha in what police describe as a shootout.
The incident was reported from at the early Sunday from districts Palashbari Upazila, said Gaibandha Sadar police OC Khan Mohammad Shahariar.
The victim has been identified as Shamsul Haque, 38.
OC Khan Mohammad Shahariar said, “Sadar police along with Sadullapur police arrested Shamsul Haque from upazila’s Dholbhanga Bazar area. Later, police along with Shamsul conducted a drive at Sakoa village to detain his accomplices. When police reached the area, his accomplices open fired and police to fire back in self-defence which triggered the shootout. Shamsul was injured in shootout and he was taken to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead,” said.
“Shamsul Haque was a listed Robber and 12 cases had filed against him in Gaibandha police stations,” added Shahariar.
The body has been sent for autopsy.
