Two alleged criminal have been killed in Bogura in what the police described as a shootout.
The incident was reported around 1.30am on Wednesday (Aug 7) from Bhabanipur Bazar in the district’s Sherpur Upazila, said police.
The deceased have been identified as 38-year-old Dhanesh alias Sukumar Sarkar and 55-year-old Afzal Hossain.
“Being tipped-off that two groups of criminals exchanging bullets among them at Purbapam Bridge in Bhabanipur Bazar, police conducted a drive in the area in the wee hours of Wednesday. When the police team reached the area, they found the bullet hit bodies of Dhanesh and Afzal lying on the ground,” said Sanatan Chakraborty, additional superintendent (Bogra circle) of police.
“They were rushed to the Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared them dead,” said Chakraborty.
“The bodies have been kept at the hospital for autopsy,” he said before adding, “Two firearms and two rounds of ammunition were seized from the scene.”
Police said that Dhanesh was accused in robbery cases filed in the different police stations in the district and Afzal was an active member of Purbo Banglar Communist Party’s Sarbahara faction. Afzal was also accused in 20 cases filed in the different police stations in the country.
