A female Union Parishad member from Chadnpur has died from dengue.
Lovely Begum, 40, a reserved seat member of Khadegaon Union of Chadnpur's Matlab Upazila, passed away on Saturday (Aug 3) while being treated at Samorita Hospital in Dhaka.
Recently, Lovely had come to Dhaka to attend a family function. After returning home, she fell seek on Aug 1 and admitted to a local hospital, her husband Abul Bashar told Bangla Tribune.
Later she was taken to the state-run hospital in the district town where test found her infected with dengue virus.
As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to the capital's Samorita Hospital on Saturday (Aug 3) where she died, Bashar added.
So far, 24,804 people had been hospitalised with dengue across Bangladesh since Jan 1, according to the Directorate General of Health Service.
At least 6,858 patients, including children, are undergoing treatment at hospitals now, while the rest were discharged after treatment.
During the period, 18 dengue patients died, all in the capital, it said. Unofficial estimates, however, say at least 60 people have died so far this year.
