Eight killed in road crashes across Bangladesh

FILE PHOTO: The truck lost control and hit a tree on Khulna-Mawna highway in Bagerhat on July 15, 2019.At least eight people were killed in road accidents in Nilphamari, Noakhali, Bogra, Tangail, and Narayanganj on Saturday (Jul 28).
In Nilphamari, a man was killed and another injured when his motorcycle collided head-on with a microbus on the Nilphamari-Sayedpur Highway of the district’s Sadar Upazila in the morning.
The deceased has been identified as Habibur Rahman, 22, of Kanchanpara village in the same upazila, said Sadar police SI SI Md Saiful Islam.
He added the victim died on the spot and an unnatural death case was filed in connection with the incident.
In Noakhali, at least four construction workers were killed and 15 others injured when a pick-up van overturned in Begumganj Upazila in the morning.
The deceased has been identified as Musa, 25, Rubel, 35, Md Nuru, 40, and Moslem, 35.
Begumganj police OC Harunur Rashid said the vehicle carrying 19 workers, was heading towards the upazila’s Banglabazar when the accident occured.
In Bogra, a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) student leader was killed on the spot when a truck rear-ended his motorcycle on the Bogra-Dhaka Highway in the Bhober Bazar neighbourhood of Bogra town, early Saturday.
The deceased, Nazmul Ahmed Nayan, 26, was president of Shahazanpur upazila's Madla union unit BCL, confirmed Bogra Chhilimpur police outpost in-charge, SI Aziz Mondol.
In Tangail, a man was killed when an unidentified vehicle ran him over on the Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway in Kalihati Upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Nur Islam Sheikh, 35, said Bangabandhu bridge east police station SI, Morsheduzzaman.
In Narayanganj, a security guard was killed when an excavator entering a factory building ran him over in the Kushabo area of Rupganj Upazila in the morning.
The deceased, Shohag Mia, worked at a factory building of Best Icon BD Ltd, said Rupganj police OC Shahjahan.
