An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Meherpur in what the police described as a shootout.
The incident was reported around 3am on Tuesday (Jul 23) from Mathabhanga intersection in Sadar Upazila's Govipur village, said police.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Hamidul Islam.
"Acting on a tip-off that a shootout took place between two groups of drug peddler, police went to the scene. Police found bullet-hit Hamidul lying dead on the spot," said Meherpur Sadar Police OC Shah Dara Khan.

"The body has been sent to Meherpur General Hospital for autopsy," said OC Khan.

"A firearm, two rounds of ammunition and 12 Phensedyl were seized from the scene," said the OC.
