SuraiyaToday, baby Suriaya steps on her fifth year but she cannot walk as yet. Suraiya’s mother sustained bullet injuries while she was pregnant in 2015. As a result, she cannot walk and has lost the usage of her right eye. Doctors say that if the right eye is not taken out, it may affect the left one.
A tumour has been noticed on her throat and she is gradually losing strength on her right side. Doctors say that if she gets improved treatment, she will become better.
Suraiya’s father, Bachchu Bhuiyan, adds: “When she was born, many people promised to stand by us but now there is no one.”
The father also said that in Magura, two doctors, Dr. Jayanta Kumar Kundu and Dr. Shafiur Rahman treat her for free.
“But, we cannot afford to buy the medicines.”
Though free medicine is available at Shishu Bikash Kendra in Dhaka, the travel cost cannot be borne by her father who is a tea stall owner.
Surgeon Shafiur Rahman, says: “We are doing what we can; but with advanced treatment, Suraiya will become better.”
On Jul 23, 2015, Suraiya’s mother Nazma was caught in a gun fire exchange between two factions and sustained a bullet injury.
This affected Suraiya, who was still unborn. Later, she was born through a surgery by Dr. Shafiur.
