Police filed a case over the killing of a murder suspect inside a judge’s chamber in a Cumilla courtroom while the trial of the case was in progress.
Bangra police Assistant Sub-Inspector Firoz lodged a murder case against the suspect, Hasan, with Cumilla Kotwali model police station, said Inspector Md Salauddin late on Monday (Jul 15).
“Sub-Inspector Firoz filed the case naming Hasan as the sole accused in murder case,” added Inspector Salauddin.
On Monday, murder accused Faruk was chased and stabbed to death by his cousin Hasan, a co-accused in the same case, inside the chamber of Judge Begum Fatema Ferdous of Cumilla Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court-3.
The incident, unprecedented in Bangladesh, raised concerns about the inefficient security system in the country’s courtrooms.
Both the judge of the court, and the legal counsel present during the trial, blamed the police personnel present in the courtroom for failing to prevent the incident, saying their negligence in duty resulted in the attack.
Later, district police formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident, with Additional Superintendent of Poplice (Cumilla north) Md Sakhawat Hossain as the head.
