Man killed in Narayanganj ‘shootout’

Photo shows a police gun barrel.A man has been killed in Narayanganj in what the police described as a shootout.

The incident was reported in the wee hours of Tuesday (Jul 16) from Chandmari slum area in the district’s Fatullah, said police.

The deceased has been identified as Biplob who is listed as a top drug peddler, named in 14 narcotics cases, according to police.

“Acting on a tip-off, a team of detective branch of police conducted a raid at the area in the wee hours on Tuesday. As soon as the team reached at the spot, a group of miscreants opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back triggering the shootout,” Narayanganj District Police Special Branch (DIO) Sazzad Romon told the media on Tuesday.

“At one point, the miscreants flee from the scene while Biplob's body was found lying on the ground,” he said.

The body has been sent to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

“A firearm was seized from the scene,” said the police officer before adding, “Four police members including Sub-Inspector Osman and Assistant Sub-Inspector Shohel were injured in the shootout."
