An outbreak of Hepatitis E virus in the port city's Halishahar for the last couple of months has put the lives of the residents at high risk.
In last two days, as many as 446 more people were infected with the virus in Chattogram, said the civil surgeon Azizur Rahman Siddiqi.
Total 624 persons were affected by the viral hepatitis in last one and a half month, the civil surgeon office sources said.
“We distributed leaflets in the area regarding the outbreak. Many water tanks are found with dirty substances during a checking in Halishahar.”
We instructed the house owners to clean the water tanks within 48 hours, Mr Siddiqi added.
Three people have reportedly died in Halishahar following the recent outbreak.
Following the incident, on Jun 27, city’s civil surgeon office lettered all the state-run and private hospitals seeking the information of the affected patients.
