Apparently not happy with the US ambassador remark about Gazipur polls, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said, “Bangladesh and the US have friendly relations and we should be careful not to damage it.”
He made the remark at Keraniganj on Friday when he was responding to a question about the remark of Marcia Bernicat on election.
We want to continue our friendly relations and we never made irresponsible remark about elections anywhere in the world, he added.
Earlier on Thursday the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat expressed concerns over reports of irregularities during the elections to the Gazipur and Khulna city corporations.
She also termed the lower voter turnout as “troubling sign”.
The US envoy also showed worry about the incidents of ballot box stuffing and intimidation of political players and polling agents during the polls in her statement.
