A group of unidentified miscreants has attempted to rob the Rupali Bank at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) and also tried to slit the throat of a security guard.
The incident was reported in the early hours of Friday (Jul 12), said police.
The security guard has been identified as Liton, who was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMC) in a critical condition, said Motihar police OC Shahadat Hossain Khan.
“Liton phoned the bank manager when the robbers fled from the scene. Later, the bank manager informed the police,” said OC Khan.
Soyaibur Rahman, the bank manager, said, “The robbers broke into the bank’s gate after the zero hour. They attempted to break the vault but failed to do that and left the scene. However, nothing was lost from the bank.”
“The CCTV camera has spotted a robber with covered face,” he added.
“A case will be lodged over the incident,” said Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) spokesperson Additional Deputy Commissioner Golam Ruhul Kuddus before adding, "Drives have been started to detain the robbers.”
