Teesta water flow above danger level

PHOTO: CourtseyThe danger level at the Teesta barrage is set at 52.60 cm above the normal level, and water was flowing at 52.67cm at the time of filing this report on Thursday (Jul 11), said Bangladesh Water Development Board Deputy Assistant Engineer (Water Monitoring) Aminur Rashid.
In addition, the Water Development Board has predicted that the water level may rise by another 10-12cm.
Deputy Assistant Engineer Aminur Rashid said 44 sluice gates have been opened to bring the water level under control.
Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jayasree Rani Roy said: “Flood affected people are being registered. Some relief supplies have been distributed among the affected people.”
Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Md Abu Zafar echoed the UNO’s comments on relief distribution.
Dalia, Lalmonirhat and Rangpur Water Development Board said it has been raining heavily since Monday, which is why the water level has risen.
Due to the heavy rain fall, flooding has occurred in: Dohogram union, Goddimari in Hatibandha upazila, Saniazan, Shingimari, Dauwabari, Sindurna, Patikapara union, Bhotmari in Kaliganj upazila, Kakina union, Bhushbandar, Mohishkhucha union in Aditmari upazila, Khuniagach in Lalmonirhat sadar upazila, Panchagram, and Gokunda union.
Due to the flooding, people living in these areas are facing food and drinking water crises.
