The fifth span of the Padma Bridge, one of the largest infrastructure projects in Bangladesh, is set to be installed on Friday, which is likely to make a total of 750 metres of the bridge visible.
The 7E superstructure will be installed between Piers 41-40 at the Zazira end, Humayun Kabir, assistant engineer (main bridge) of the mega project, told Bangla Tribune.
The span was lifted by a crane and transported from the Munsiganj’s Mawa to the area between Pier 41 and Pier 40 on Thursday.
Previously, 600 metre of the bridge had been made visible with the installation of four spans on Piers between 37, 38, 39, 40 and 41.
The first span was installed on Sep 30 last year, the second on Jan 28 this year, the third one on Mar 11 and the fourth on May 13.
A total of 41 spans will be installed for the 6.14km-long bridge with each span having a length of 150 metre and weight of 3,140 tonnes.
