Mayoral candidates, both from Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), submitted nomination papers on Thursday to contest the Rajshahi City Corporation polls.
Flanked by the supporters and party activists, the AL candidate, Khairuzzaman Liton, and BNP backed mayoral candidate and incumbent Mayor of RCC, Mosadeque Hossain Bulbul, submitted their candidature to the Rajshahi regional election office amidst a festive atmosphere.
Talking to the press after submission, Liton said: “people of RCC want a change as they have not seen any development in the past five years.”
Liton also highlighted that the city Awami League is united and working to convey the message of development carried out by the government.
People will not make mistake this time in choosing their mayor, he said affirmatively.
Among other mayor aspirants, Wasiur Rahman from Jatiya Party, independent candidate Habibur Rahman and advocate Murad Morshed from Ganasanghati Andolon submitted their nominations.
Until Wednesday, a total of seven persons submitted for the mayor post and 229 for general councillor and reserved seats for women.
