Police have found involvement of Awami League leader advocate Zahirul Islam and his second wife Julekha in the sensational murder of a college principal and Mohila League leader Shahin Sultana Fancy.

Fancy, 50, also the principal of Gollak Degree College in Faridganj Upazila, was found dead at her residence in Sholaghar area of the district town on Jun 4 at around 11:30pm.

On the following day, victim’s brother Forkan Uddin filed a murder case against four people, including Fancy’s husband Zahirul and Julekha, with Chandpur Model Police Station. They were arrested and taken into remand for getting information about the murder.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Shamsunnahar at a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon said, “We have evidence that advocate Zahirul Islam and his second wife Julekha are the masterminds and executed the murder. We are looking into the evidence. I can’t give you much information for the sake of the investigation”, said the SP.

An accomplice has already given a confessional statement and we want to bring the culprits to justice, she added.

Meanwhile, Rakibul Hasan, a Mymensingh Medical College student and also a cousin of Julekha has given confessional statement under section 164.

However, prime accused Zahirul Islam has denied any involvement in the crime.
