The Moulvibazar Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal on Wednesday sent an an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police to jail for torturing a woman.
The accused is Abu Taher, 32, ASI of Rajnagar Police Station in Moulvibazar hailed from Shibpur Narsingdi.
Judge Begum Shamima Afroz of the special tribunal sent him to jail rejecting his bail plea, the court police inspector Abdul Hai Chowdhury told Bangla Tribune.
According to the case history, Nasima Akter of Bhanugachbazar area of Komolganj Upazila filed a case over Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Police on Jan 31 last year.
The ASI was in at large after the tribunal issued an arrest warrant against him on Nov 8.
The prosecutor said that the accused was fugitive since the arrest warrant was issued.
The policeman was rejected bail and sent to jail, he added.
