Five people were killed and 11 others injured as thunderstorms lashed across the country on Monday.
In the southwestern district of Satkhira, three people have died after being struck by lightning while two deaths were reported from Netrakona.
Two of the victims in Satkhira were women, who were struck while working at a fish farm in Gunamtali of Shyamnagar Upazila, said local police OC Abdul Mannan.
Eight others have been hospitalised with burn injuries.
A youth died and two others sustained burns as lighting struck them while working at a shrimp enclosure in Sadar Upazila’s Baikari area, local police OC Marif Ahmed told Bangla Tribune.
Two deaths were reported in the northeastern district of Netrokona’s Mohonganj Upazila.
All of the victims were fishermen, who were struck while catching fish on a backswamp in Karachapur, said Mohonganj police OC Ansaril Zinnat Ali.
Three others have been hospitalised with burn injuries, he added.
