Flood damages 300 tonnes rice in Moulvibazar

The warehouses were stocked with nearly 1,568 tonnes of rice and 424 tonnes of wheatFlash floods and incessant rains have damaged nearly 300 tonnes rice in government warehouses in the northeastern district of Moulvibazar.
Early rains and flash floods have left several parts of the district town inundated on Jun 17, including four government warehouses used for stockpiling food grains.
The warehouses were stocked with nearly 1,568 tonnes of rice and 424 tonnes of wheat, according to officials.
“It was not possible to remove the stock from the flooded warehouse. We have now started to move them as the water receded,” said acting Food Controller Manoj Kanti Das Chowdhury.
He, however, described the damages as ‘meagre’. “Our initial assessment was around 600 tonnes of damage, but it’s way lower than that. At best, 300 toones,” he said.
