‘Drug peddler’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘shootout’

An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Cox’s Bazar’s in what the police described as a shootout.
The incident was reported early on Monday (Jun 3) at Katakhali area in Teknaf Upazila’s Hoaykong Union, said police.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Mofizar Rahman.
“Police arrested the listed yaba peddler, Mofizar Rahman, two days ago. Based on his information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area to seize smuggled yaba,” said Teknaf police OC Pradeep Kumar Das.

“As soon as police reached the area, Rahman’s accomplices opened fire when the police retaliated. Rahman was caught in the cross-firing and rushed to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead on arrival,” said OC Das.  

“The body has been sent to Cox’s Sadar Hospital for autopsy,” he said.

“Three police members were injured in the incident,” added the OC.
